biography.
Julian Diaz / Creator and designer of furniture and art pieces in (burnt) wood.
My work speaks of origins, animal hides, arid land, burning fire, and the marks of time. My concept: ethnic designs, textures, fine lines, organic forms. Pieces with character. I love working by hand, imbuing the material with a bit of my personality and mood; that's why each piece is unique. My method is to reclaim and combine ancient and modern techniques to achieve unique textures and forms. I am a lover of detail. I am constantly searching for new designs, new textures, new materials, new techniques, and new projects.

Connecting with the material. Wood has infinite ways of expressing itself; it is alive. My creative work consists of discovering all the techniques and all the possible tools or elements, ancient or modern, that allow me to sculpt, drill, inlay, burn, erode, or provoke a reaction in the wood and create, with these results, organic and natural patterns and forms.
Reconceptualizing the unique piece. Each wooden object has its own story. First marked by its origin and finally sculpted and shaped by the character of my designs. Working directly with the material, I ensure that I have imprinted, through the gesture of my hand, the intensity of each day onto the piece.
Being kind to the environment. Imagining, designing, and creating, but also thinking about solutions to manufacturing waste problems. Creating durable, high-quality products, valuing wood and making the most of it, is a way to honor what our planet gives us.
